THOSE LITTLE HORRORS!!! TOP HAT'S SUMMER COURSES 2008
AUGUST 08
The summer courses 2008 were a real hit this holiday. “Little Shop of Horrors” took place at the Wyllyotts Theatre in Potters Bar, Castle Hall in Hertford and also St. Albans Girls School. Over 150 students aged 4 – 17 years of age took part. Some of the students attend our schools regularly each weekend, but for many children it was their first time performing with Top Hat; for some, it was the first time performing at all. The courses ran for just 5-days and students had to put on the show in this time and they did it with an amazing flair and professionalism. In Welwyn Garden City, the chosen summer course production was “High School Musical”. Again this 5-day course was a complete triumph and starred over 80 children, which was our largest cast we have ever had on any holiday course. Our next Holiday course will take place at Easter: Mon 6th – Fri 10th April 09 at the Wyllyotts in Potters Bar & from Mon 13th – Fri 17th April 2009 in Welwyn and Tues 14th - Sat 18th April in St. Albans.

SUMMER SCHOOL ROCKS THE HOUSE!!!
Gallery
Bugsy Malone was the talk of the town during this summer’s Summer school. Over 20 students from Welwyn, Hertford and Stevenage centres attended, as well as some new faces. In just four days, the students, along with Warren and other Teachers, they transformed the stage at John Henry Newman School, into a gangster’s paradise. Parents were amazed at how they managed to produce the whole Musical in such a short space of time. Dominic Creasey took the role as Bugsy, whilst Katie Lingham played Blousey; both were amazing to say the least. We also seen fantastic performances from everyone: the tough Dandy Dan (Barney Monk) in particular, was excellent as the baddie; Fat Sam (played beautifully by Christopher Spreckley) and his Gang were hilarious. The Show Girls scene was also very memorable, especially Olivia Joy, Emily Miles, India de Wolf, Rebecca Andrews and Lorena Jarvis, taking the roles as Dandy Dan’s henchmen, as well as the show girls. But how can we forget Tallulah? Played by the brilliant Emma Nottingham, a role that she was born to play. Overall, TOP HAT’s Summer School was a huge hit with audiences and showed that with hard work, talent and determination – anything is possible.

On the last day of term in July, TOP HAT finally presented their eagerly awaited Summer Show: “That’s Entertainment”. A collection of dance, drama and song from the 1940’s era. A time where drama queens paraded the silver screen and anyone who was anyone wanted to be famous. There were so many fantastic moments, it is hard to pin point the best. Moments that stood out: “That’s Entertainment”; “New York” – a fantastic visual feats of golden shimmery Top Hats; the over the top director Ed and his assistant Bunny provided the humour and the wanna be actors brought home some serious issues. The stage ones were brilliant and the dancing from the stage two’s were unforgettable! Well done to everyone involved, it surely was a fantastic show!
